Mardonio Magaña

1865–1947

Mardonio Magaña was an educator, laborer and late in life, a sculptor. As a self-taught artist, he identified with his subjects and themes around campesino (farmer) life. His works were cherished and collected by Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo and were celebrated in the 2012 Permanent Collection exhibition, Mardonio Magaña: Circa 1938 at the NMMA.
