El Arte de lo Pequeño

March 29 – September 28, 2025 Rubin & Paula Torres Gallery
Teresa Velazquez (Guerrero), Preparaciónes de boda y celebración (Wedding Preparations and Celebration), ca. 1978, ink and paint on amate paper, NMMA Permanent Collection, Gift of Drs. Arthur A. and Malka Moscona, photo: Michael Tropea

Thirty-eight years after the National Museum of Mexican Art was founded, over twenty-thousand works comprise the museum’s Permanent Collection - a diverse array of acquired works by different artists, categories, techniques, periods, and formats. The Art of the Small exhibition, a unique showcase of our collection, brings together artwork in small format, as well as works with minuscule iconography. Each piece, with its delicate strokes, intentional use of remnants, and meditative moments, offers a fascinating glimpse into the breadth of Mexican art.
