Four Decades After the Muralists

June 26 – September 13, 1992

This exhibition showcased the vein of alternative artwork that reacted against the official government sponsored public arts. The artwork displayed in this exhibition developed parallel to the Mexican Mural Renaissance of the 1930’s and 1940’s. However, it did not find any support in Mexican museums – all government run. The lack of exposure and exhibition opportunities for this movement provoked a group of artists called La Ruptura (The Rupture) to eventually demand attention and support.
