Guelaguetza Oaxaqueña en Chicago
The National Museum of Mexican Art and the Field Museum present Guelaguetza Oaxaqueña en Chicago performed by the Ballet Folklórico de Austin. Join us for a dazzling evening commemorating one of the liveliest and most joyful festivals celebrated in Oaxaca, Mexico each July. In the colorful mosaic of Oaxacan festivals and traditions, the Guelaguetza stands out for its deep roots in the Mexican state’s cultural identity. Guelaguetza commemorates the mutual interdependence of the people within the community and celebrates the importance to indigenous cultures of sharing, reciprocity, and extended community.
Ballet Folklórico de Austin is a dance group founded in 2014 under the direction of maestro Edgar Yepez and are known for presenting memorable programs marked by beautiful dance and colorful authentic regional dress.
Doors open at 6:00 pm. General seating is available on a first come, first served basis when the auditorium opens at 6:30 pm. The performance begins at 7:00 pm and is 90 minutes with a 15-minute intermission.
