Mujeres Huastecas Mesoamericanas : Conversation with Dr. María Eugenia Maldonado
Join us as we welcome archaeologist Dr. María Eugenia Maldonado as she discusses ancient indigenous artifacts seen in the Ancient Huasteca Women: Goddesses, Warriors, and Governors exhibition. Artifacts dating from 1500 BCE to 1400 CE along the Gulf of Mexico and the present-day states of Veracruz, Hidalgo, Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosí.
With almost 100 artifacts, Dr Maldonado will present her work that has brought to light ancient stories of female deities, warriors, governors and priestesses. These pieces have allowed us to learn new perspectives of Huastec women, their influential positions and their role in ancestral rituals and the sacred ball game.
The presentation will conclude with a private visit to the Mesoamerican Huasteca Women: Goddesses, Warriors and Governors exhibition, led by Dr. Maldonado.
This presentation is possible with the support of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), archaeologists David Antonio Morales, and Maria Eugenia Maldonado.
Please note this presentation is in Spanish.
