This exhibition is a survey (1980s to the present) of graffiti aesthetics created in Chicago’s public space through a contemporary Mexican-American experience. It considers graffiti and street art as a social practice, focusing on agency, mobilization and the formation of identity. In the context of graffiti, agency empowers marginalized populations who have little or no access to quality education, arts programming, or systems of support. Agency is a practice of identifying and expressing one's own voice and experienced through graffiti.
