When I look at Viviana Powell’s Work, I sometimes feel an overpowering sense of the Dark Sublime. A transference of meaning from one image to another so that the images refer to/allude to - but is never fully explained. Viviana’s provocative and haunting images summer with regret, disappointment, and loss. I think she represents her work like a philosopher. With light that is “numinous” she speaks about self and the need to reunite the opposites. Viviana locates thoughts about an alienated society that longs for utopia but ultimately is faced with real life. - Phyllis Bramson, Painter and Associate Professor University of Illinois at Chicago
