The National Museum of Mexican Art is proud to present the 2022 Sor Juana Festival. The Sor Juana Festival is a multidisciplinary festival that honors one of Mexico’s greatest writers, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a 17th-century Mexican nun and celebrated playwright, mathematician and poet, who is considered to be the first feminist of the Americas.
Since 1994, the festival continues to be the only one of its kind with such a unique scope and focus. Throughout the years, we’ve presented greats like Angélica Aragón, Vikki Carr, Ana Castillo, Sandra Cisneros, Maria Hinojosa, and Julieta Venegas.
After a long two-year break, the festival is back and promises to be better than ever with a jampacked lineup of live musical performances, book readings, and more— all in celebration of the rich artistic accomplishments of Mexican women from both sides of the border.
This year we are excited to highlight emerging and celebrated artists like Rocío Banquells, Julissa Arce, Susana Zabaleta and many more! There’s something for everyone, so round up your friends, invite your tías, and get ready for an unforgettable festival.
