Inspired by the 1984 novel The House on Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros, this exhibition highlighted many of the issues facing adolescents growing up in urban communities. The contemporary works of art on display interpret the central themes brought to light in Cisneros’s consciousness-raising novel. With more than six million copies sold and translated in different languages, The House on Mango Street has become a true coming-of-age classic and warrants such exploration within the visual arts community.
