On this page, you’ll find information about how to make the best of your visit to the National Museum of Mexican Art.

We are closed on Mondays and on major holidays.

Admission

Free!

Admission is always free to the Museum. We rely on the support of generous donors to help us keep our doors open and accessible to all visitors regardless of their ability to pay.

Location

We’re located in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood just south and west of Chicago’s downtown. We are easily accessible by car and public transportation.

Parking

Visitor parking is available in the Ray Castro Parking Lot and Plaza, located on the east side of the Museum. The lot is open daily from 8:00 am – 11:00 pm at a rate of $3 per hour.

Accessibility

Our facility is wheelchair accessible and all of our galleries and our shop are located on the main floor.

Prepare for your visit with NMMA’s sensory-friendly app. Designed for guests with autism and sensory sensitivities in mind, the app helps make NMMA more accessible to all guests. You can download it for Ios or Android devices.

NMMA also offers sensory bags available to be checked out free of charge during your visit to the museum. Our sensory bags include fidgets, ear defenders, sunglasses, and an activity sheet to assist while exploring the Museum. Please visit the front desk to check out a sensory bag or contact angela@nationalmuseumofmexicanart.org for more information. 

Tours

All year round, the NMMA's Education Department offers docent-led tours of our permanent and temporary exhibitions. Tours are tailored to all ages (including parents) and offer visitors an opportunity to learn about art and culture through the artwork on display and the thematic content explored by the exhibition.

Gift Shop

The Musem’s gift shop, Tienda Tzintzuntzán — Place of the Hummingbird, is described by some visitors as an exhibition unto itself. Tienda Tzintzuntzán offers an eclectic variety of unique gifts such as beautifully crafted artwork, jewelry, textiles, and a large selection of books and toys. Our retail team carefully selects items from Oaxaca, Puebla, Taxco, Michoacán, Jalisco, Metepec, Mexico City and other beautiful Mexican regions while on their shopping excursions throughout Mexico.

While walking through the neighborhood, you'll also find some of the most vibrant public artworks in the city, highlighting the cultural integrity and artistic talent that Pilsen has been known for dating back to the 1970s.

FAQs

Is parking available?

The Museum has a pay parking lot and free street parking is available. Please check signs for restrictions during certain hours or on street cleaning and snow removal days.

How much time should I plan to spend at the Museum?

We suggest at least an hour to get through all four galleries.

Can I buy something to eat or drink?

We do not have food or drinks at the Museum and none are allowed in the galleries, but we can direct you to some wonderful Pilsen stores and restaurants. Please visit the Our Neighborhood page for more information.

Can I arrange for a private tour?

Yes! But, we need advance notice to schedule something. Please contact us for information on scheduling your tour. Tours are available in Spanish and English.

What are the Museum's regular hours?

Our regular hours are 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Tuesday through Sunday.
